Seaton Phillips

Early privileges, 1930s & 40s : our own boat on the canal at Malpas for me and three sisters for peaceful wartime entertainment; and many cycling explorations on traffic-free roads. Schools (Malvern Link and Radley); then a reluctant army recruit, but Jerusalem and Egypt were unexpected privileges in 1948. Then a Swindon apprenticeship where open access to the famous locomotive works was another privilege.

Several years of drawing railway lines and things, interspersed with much motorcycling, and visiting tops of mountains and depths of caves. There Marion appeared and everything began to be rather more interesting. Specially the wedding in 1963. Peter, Jennifer and Timothy appeared too.

Computers also entered my life, but became less friendly after eight years. Pigs proved more companionable. Africa loomed, and became our life for a seven month expedition with the three children in 1972.

Wales and the farm then took us over and fixed us here for 33 years (so far). Cattle, goats and dogs, fields and woods kept us happily busy with no commuting to work. Alice and Helen joined us happily too. More travels for me after retirement -- Australia and Eastern Europe -- then arthritis, two new knees and now hoping for new ankle.

Reading the Daily Telegraph Seaton with the chainsaw

Seaton writes of a holiday in Mexico in 2002, a holiday in La Gomera, his Trans-Siberian journey and our family expedition across Africa.
